Vancouver International is the second of Canada’s ‘big two’ airports. Our visit here saw us based on the south side of the airport. By the south terminal is a small viewing platform that allows photographs over the top of the fence. The main airlines use the north side of the airport and as expected Air Canada and its partner airliners dominate along with Westjet. The main airlines from Europe, China, Japan and Korea also use this airport. These can still be seen and photographed from the viewing platform.
The south side is home to the smaller regional and charter operators along with the executive FBOs. Also on the south side is the floatplane base. It is only a couple of minute walk from the south terminal to the river where DHC Beavers, Otters, Cessna Caravans can be seen.
On this visit I divided my time between the viewing platform to keep an eye on the airliners and the river to catch the floatplanes.
