Duxford started life in 1919 as an RAF aerodrome and closed as such in 1961. It is now a civilian licensed aerodrome and is owned by the Imperial War Museum who house their collection of aircraft here, but also on display are collections from the Duxford Aviation Society, the Aircraft Restoration Company, the Fighter Collection and the Historic Aircraft Collection. A large number of airworthy historic aircraft belonging to these companies and others are also based here and can been seen whist visiting. The aerodrome also hosts a number of airshows throught the summer months, which give the public a chance to see the historic aircraft flying.
The selection of photographs shown here come from all the above collections and are considered as the static aircraft collection.
