Lake Hood, Anchorage, Alaska is the biggest float plane base in the word. Here can be seen a wide variety of General Aviation types on floats, wheels and skies. Nowhere else I've been is like this. If this isn't enough there can also be found a good collection of Bush planes.
Lake Hood is joined to Lake Spenard by the Hood Channel to make one very large lake. It also has a hard runway so whatever undercarriage an aircraft has it can land here all year round. Just to make matters more interesting, it is right next to Ted Stevens Anchorage International Airport.
June 2014, for me, found the place to be Beaver heaven. I had never seen so many of this rugged Bush plane around the lake at the same time. Upwards of 35 Beavers were seen during my stay here.
